Butte County Search and Rescue were called out just before seven Monday night to a report of four people stranded in a jeep, somewhere on Humbug Summit Road.
The jeep was stuck in the mud with a flat, with four people in it. The caller said they had left earlier in the day to go four wheeling and headed up to Chester. The caller reported that they were somewhere near Philbrook lake, and had passed a “25 miles to Chester” sign several miles before they got stuck.
Search and Rescue officials advised them to stay put. With help from a mapping system and topographic map overlays authorities worked to pinpoint their location. Four Search and Rescue members were sent to Humbug Summit Road, with two driving up from the bottom and two driving down from the top.
They located the stranded four wheelers on a side road, with help from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office helicopter. Food and water was provided, and the people were safely escorted out of the area.
