Oroville Dam has been cleared of a reported suspicious device.

The Butte County Bomb Squad responded to a suspicious device found at the Upper Overlooking Parking Lot at Oroville Dam just before 7 a.m. Friday. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials tell Action News Now the device appeared to be some sort of homemade firework type device. After x-raying and blowing the device up around 10:00 a.m., it was deemed safe.

CHP Sergeant Matt Dufort says to contact 911 immediately upon finding any sort of suspicious device.

"Get a safe distance away, don't use your cellular device or anything like that near it," Sgt. Dufort said. "100 to 300 feet away would probably be advisable."

There were no other devices found around the dam Friday morning and Sgt. Dufort said suspicious devices haven't been found near the dam before. The area has been deemed safe, there were no injuries.
