It was a busy Halloween weekend for the Chico Police Department with more than 50 people arrested from Friday night through Sunday morning.

Police say 58 people were arrested over the weekend, which is up from 48 arrests last year.

The three day Halloween Operations Event was active for law enforcement and public safety in general in the City of Chico. As expected both Friday and Saturday nights of the Halloween Operational Period were active, with large crowds in the South Campus area of Chico.

Police say the arrest numbers were not out of the ordinary for the Halloween weekend, especially with Halloween falling on a Saturday.

Chico dispatchers received 525 calls for service on Halloween, while a typical 24 hour period will generate 350-425 calls. 452 calls were received on Halloween last year.

Among those arrested were six Chico State students and five Butte College students.
