Business is booming for North State heating and air companies.
Since the cold hit a couple of days ago, Bob Bennett says his phone lines have lit up.
He says a lot of people experience issues when they first fire their furnace up...
But because it's a box that creates fire, Bennett says preventive maintenance during the fall is key.
Also, he said seven out of 10 calls have to do with one simple preventive measure.
“One of the best things you can do is to make sure your filter is changed on a monthly basis, whether dirty or not…get a cheap one, take it out, [and] replace it,” Bennett said.
Bennett also said heating and air workers can detect any small levels of carbon monoxide in your home.
