Burger Hut Closing Flagship Store

A well-known north state burger chain is closing its flagship location. The owners of Burger Hut recently announced that they will be shutting down the Nord Avenue restaurant at the end of this month. The burger joint first opened 35 years ago on Nord and has since opened 2 other stores in Chico. Owner Jim Williams says he's closing the location to be able to spend more time with family. He also said that the upkeep of the older building was beginning to be too costly after seeing a drop in sales at the location.

"Business has fallen off here. This side of town has a lot of possible eating establishments, places that people can go. There's a lot of choice around here. The students don't have the money and the flexibility they used to have. The time was right," he says.

The 2 other Chico locations on Cohasset Road and Forest Avenue will remain open. Star Liquors will be tearing down the building on Nord and constructing a new store after Burger Hut closes on May 31st.
