Bureau of Labor Statistics Shows Chico Workers Earn 8% Less Than National Average

The latest Bureau of Labor numbers show employment and wage data for occupations in the Chico, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area is now available online at http://www.bls.gov/ro9/oeschic.pdf.

Employment counts and average rates of pay are available for all jobs in the area. Items of note include:

•The average worker in the Chico area earned $20.20/hr in May 2012, about 8% below the U.S. average of $22.01/hr
•Management occupations in the area were highest paid at $44.70/hr, followed by Healthcare Practitioners and Technical occupations at $38.89/hr
•Healthcare support occupations accounted for 4.8% of local employment, compared to 3.0% nationally
•Office and administrative support occupations accounted for the largest share of local employment at 18.1%
•Chico ranked 2nd among metropolitan areas nationwide in pay for Industrial Machinery Mechanics ($32.70/hr) and 3rd for Pharmacists ($68.56/hr)
