Bully Fire at 8,700 acres, 35 percent contained

The Bully Fire has now burned 8,700 acres and is 35 percent contained. Cal Fire is now reporting that containment is not expected until Wednesday July 23, they had previously hoped to have full containment by Friday.

Evacuation orders are still in place for Big Foot Road from Platina Road and Sunny Hill Road at Rainbow Lake Road. Advisory evacuations continue to be issued for the area east to Rainbow Lake Road.

Road closures are in place at Platina Road at Bland Road for all westbound traffic and Platina Road at Graves Ranch Road for all eastbound traffic, as well as Sunny Hill Road at Rainbow Lake Road.

A Red Cross evacuation center has been set up at Ono Elementary School, 6249 Placer Street in Igo and displaced residents who need assistance with animals should contact Shasta County Animal Control at 530-245-6540.

The fire has destroyed eight homes and ten other structures. 11 firefighters have suffered minor injuries.

A 27-year-old Sacramento man has been arrested on suspicion of starting the blaze. Authorities say he was delivering material to a marijuana site when the exhaust from his truck ignited dry grass.
