Firefighters are still battling the latest blaze to break in Trinity County, this one near the Town of Weaverville.

The Browns Fire started just before 4 p.m. Tuesday near Little Browns Creek Road and Highway 299. The fire is believed to have started as a series of smaller fires that burned into one 35 acre fire, which is now 75 percent contained.

No structures have been burned and no injuries have been reported.

The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office issued mandatory evacuations for Little Browns Creek Road, and officials say the initial fire response was great, especially given the warm conditions. All evacuations were lifted late Tuesday night, and Highway 299 was re-opened around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, however, early California Highway Patrol reports noted a vehicle losing a tire in the area, dragging sparks along the highway.
