The Sutter County Sheriff's Office is investigating a case involving what appears to be human remains found near the Feather River. An angler found the remains of what appears to be a partial jawbone with several teeth intact, plus a bone fragment, on the banks of the river at the levy at Star Bend Road. According to Steve Chadwell, he was fishing Saturday morning when, around 7:30am, he spotted the remains. He called the Sutter County Sheriff's Office, which said they do appear to be human. Chadwell says the area is rich with Native American history, and the remains could be from a nearby burial ground. He adds that they also could be connected to a missing persons' case, and he wanted to call authorities just to be on the safe side.
The Sutter County Sheriff's Office has turned the case over to the detective's unit.
