Boy Scout Leader sentenced to six years

A former Boy Scout leader was sentenced in Tehama County today on felony charges of molesting young scouts.

The judge sentenced 22-year-old Dustin Hedrick to six years in prison.

The victim, who is still a minor, and his family gave emotional testimony in the courtroom.

Hedrick was arrested by authorities in Butte County in May of 2012, he was charged with a misdemeanor for crimes that allegedly happened at the boy scout camp in Butte Meadows.

The Tehama County arrest was sparked by the Butte investigation, but involved more serious charges.

In addition to the six year sentence, Hedrick also received a year behind bars for his Butte County conviction.

Hedrick will have to register as a sex offender upon release.
