LOS ANGELES (AP) - An 8-year-old boy who was shot in the head when a stranger opened fire in his Los Angeles home has left the hospital.
KNBC-TV says Leo Bernal was released Friday. He told the station his head hurts but he's looking forward to playing sports again.
His mother, Teresa Bernal, says the boy's skull was opened and he needed 23 staples to close incisions.
She says Leo's afraid to go home. KNBC says the hospital offered the family some free nights at a hotel.
Family members say Leo had just been put to bed Sunday night when a strange man entered their Del Rey home, exchanged words with his father and fired more than a dozen shots.
Bullets pierced Leo's bedroom wall. He was the only one hit.
Police are investigating.
