"Boil Water" warning issued for Shasta County residents

The California State Water Resources Board has issued a “boil water” warning for Crag View water customers in Shasta County.

The Shasta County Department of Public Works reported that a recent leak in a main water line, the lines were unable to maintain optimal pressure and could have been contaminated.

Public works issued a few advisement for customers to take one or more of the following steps before drinking tap water:

  • Boil your water by bringing it to a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute
  • Disinfect your water by adding twelve drops of regular household blench per gallon of water. Allow the water to stand for 30 minutes before drinking it
  • Use bottled water or water from another approved source.

Official warned that this is only for water that is to be consumed. Water that is used for bathing, handwashing, washing clothes or dishes, and toilet flushing, can be used without any special precautions.

The advisement will remain in effect until 5:00 p.m. Monday January 4, 2015.
