The Shasta County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office stated today the body of 18-year-old Robinson Sok of Oakland, Calif., was recovered from Shasta Lake yesterday.
According to the coroner’s office press release, Sok’s family contracted a third party with deep water sonar capabilities to locate his body. Sok’s body was recovered on the McCloud arm near Turntable Bay. The coroner’s office confirmed the identity of the body and they plan on conducting a postmortem examination next week.
On September 6, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Unit received a report of a drowning on the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake around 10:30 a.m. Around 4:15 p.m. that same day the sheriff’s department officially confirmed the drowning and began the recovery operation of Sok’s body.
On September 8, volunteer diver Ken Smith died during the recovery operation when the vehicle he submerged with became entangled. Another safety diver, John Zufall, was taken to an area hospital and eventually transported to Travis Air Force Base and placed in a decompression chamber. He was released from the hospital in mid-September.
