Body found in rural Butte County identified as Angelica Weems

The body located along Sacramento River on Sunday have been positively identified by the Butte County Coroner's Office as missing Chico woman Angelica Weems.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a search party made up of Weem's family members discovered the body and called the Glenn County Sheriff's Office, who transferred the case to the Butte County Sheriff's Office.

Weems' death has been ruled a homicide and the Butte County Sheriff's Office is working with the Willows Police Department in this investigation.

Angelica Weems, 23, was last been seen Saturday September 13, when she and her husband Zir Weems went for a walk in Willows. Zir returned from the walk, but Angelica did not.

On Sunday September 14, Willows Police found Zir Weems with self-inflicted stab wounds near Oak Street and Ventura Street in Willows.

Willows and Chico Police arrested Zir Weems in Chico Septmeber 25 on five counts of animal cruelty. Authorities say Weem's negligent treatment of a dog led to its death.
