The Shasta County Board of Supervisors approved rate increases for two water districts Tuesday.
The communities of Jones Valley and Castella will be paying for water transfers the rest of the summer, to ensure that residents have enough water.
Shasta County Public Works Director Pat Mintrun says the increase will take place at the start of the next billing cycle, and translates to roughly $30 more each month. "This increase only takes effect in years there is a water transfer, and it's only in the summer. In the winter months folks will see their water bills go back to where they are" Mintrun said.
The community of Crag View had a majority protest, so the supervisors were unable to pass an increase.
Public Works staff will be returning at the next meeting with an ordinance to curtail water use to a minimum, in order to avoid fines.
