WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) - A portion of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington state will be closed starting Saturday because of a small wildfire in the Agnes Creek area.
The Blankenship Fire has burned about 70 acres in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest since it started on July 14.
The trail will be closed on the south end at Suiattle Pass and the on the north end of Five Mile Camp. Forest officials say the closure is for public safety because the fire is progressively backing down toward the Pacific Crest Trail.
Trail closures around Holden Village due to the Wolverine Fire have been lifted. But there remains a closure associated with rock blasting for the Holden Mine Remediation project.
Hikers are being detoured around the closures.
