SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California lawmakers are considering legislation to modernize family law in the wake of high-profile family feuds.

One bill tackles what role sperm donors should play in their children's lives. The issue was highlighted by actor Jason Patric's fight for custody of a 4-year-old son he fathered through sperm donation.

AB2344 by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano would create forms clarifying parental responsibilities. The San Francisco Democrat's bill also speeds up adoptions for non-biological parents raising children.

Other legislation addresses adult children who want to visit parents over the objections of new spouses. AB2034 by Assemblyman Mike Gatto would allow them to file petitions to do so.

The bill was inspired by a dispute over radio personality Casey Kasem. His children fought his second wife in court to visit him.
