Wednesday, a bike safety and drunk driving awareness event to honor Kristina Chesterman was held at Chico State.
Chesterman was killed September of 2013 by a drunk driver who struck her while she was riding her bicycle on Nord avenue. Her legacy lives on through her parents, who promote awareness of the consequences of drunk driving.
The event offered free bike safety checks, tune-ups, light installations as well as drunk driving education.
According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving... on average... one person is killed every 53 minutes by a drunk dirver... and every two minutes... someone is injured in a d-u-i related incident. The Chesterman's hope their daughters story will be enough to change that statistic.
They also wanted to raise awareness for organ donation. After Kristina was killed she was able to save 5 lives thanks to her decision to become an organ donor.
