Big waste collection changes for Butte Co. residents

Residents of Butte County can expect big changes in the way their trash and recycling gets picked up.

Starting next month, the county will operate under a franchise structure, using three waste haulers for three different collection areas.

Recology will serve south Butte County, Waste Management will serve northwest Butte County, and Northern Recycling and Waste Services will serve the Ridge.

Butte County's Solid Waste Manager, Bill Mannel, says the change will mean less damage to county roads and more accountability for these companies.

It will also mean some people will receive recycling services they didn't have before.

Mannel says an increase in services may mean an increase in price.

"Some customers may see a slight increase, some may see a decrease, some may see an increase because they're receiving more services," Mannel said.
