Big Rig hits power poles, closes road, knocks out power near Anderson

All lanes of Highway 273 at Latona Road, just north of Anderson are closed at this time and power was knocked out for more than 1700 PG&E customers in the Happy Valley area.

According to the California Highway Patrol the accident happened at 9:55 a.m. when the driver of the big rig, Dennis Ferguson, of Shasta Lake City, had a bee fly down his throat, causing him to almost lose control of the truck. The truck went off the road and hit two power poles, took out about 100 feet of fencing and damaged two sheds.

CHP Officials say both northbound and southbound lanes will be closed for approximately four hours while PG&E crews make repairs. Northbound lanes will be closed starting at Ox Yoke Rd. and southbound lanes will be turned around at Latona Road.

According to PG&E 1780 area customers were without power after the accident, but power has been restored to almost all customers at this time.
