Fire crews are battled a vegetation fire near County Road 200 in Orland after a big rig crashed into a power pole Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened just west of Interstate 5 before noon. The driver of the big rig experienced a medical issue, drifted off the road, tried to correct himself, then crashed into a telephone pole. The vehicle spilled fuel and animal feed into the roadways. The downed powerlines sparked a vegetation fire.

The driver sustained a head injury. The CHP tells us he is lucky it wasn't worse, as the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

The rear axle of the big rig reportedly ripped off the vehicle and was in the road creating significant traffic delays in the area.

Crews were able to clear the scene. Roadways are now open.
