Big rig crash causes lengthy delays north of Redding

The northbound lanes of Interstate 5 have reopened near Salt Creek Road after Caltrans crews completed cleanup efforts from a big rig crash Wednesday night.

The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. near the Salt Creek Road on-ramp, about 21 miles north of Redding, when according to the California Highway Patrol a big rig went up an embankment and then overturned.

The driver was uninjured and no other vehicles were involved, but the truck did however spill a significant amount of canned foods on the roadway.

Cleanup crews worked into Wednesday afternoon, and at 1:30 p.m. Caltrans officials announced all lanes the debris was cleared, but traffic was backed up to Fawndale.
