Ever since its discovery a little over three weeks ago, we've been dying to know what's in the time capsule? Thousands of you reached out to us on our Facebook page and Twitter telling us what you think it is. We've heard everything from gold to newspaper clippings. Bidwell Mansion hosted a ceremony to give us that answer. Well... kinda.
State parks opened the copper box at Bidwell Mansion... to finally give inquiring minds what they want to know.
The time capsule discovered accidentally on November 4th by a construction crew took a little over 3 hours to prep, all for the big reveal.
Standing by, the man who made this possible, Tom Williams. He and his crew made the discovery when working on a sidewalk improvement project.
The marker that was moved was placed on October 16, 1925 to mark the Oregon Trail and the area of the old Adobe built in 1852.
Although we may not have the answer to what's in the box, the Chico community didn't leave disappointed, getting an up close and personal look at the contents behind glass.
Because of its decay and fragile state parchment experts and archaeologists from Sacramento will open the contents carefully.
If you want to check it out for yourself and take a guess... the time capsule and its contents will be at the visitors center at Bidwell Mansion.
