Bicyclist struck, killed by teenage driver in Shingletown

The Shasta County Coroner has identified A Shingletown woman who was killed after being struck by a teenage driver.

Belen Conde Berry, 45, was biking eastbound on Highway 44 near Squaw Springs Road around 5:45 p.m. Thursday when the 17-year-old driver of a 1973 BMW drifted onto the shoulder of the highway and hit her.

The teen, whose name will not be released, told California Highway Patrol Investigators he fell asleep for two to three seconds. He was not arrested, but the investigation is ongoing.
