Bicyclist struck by car in downtown Redding

UPDATE: A bicyclist struck by a car in downtown Redding Wednesday morning has died from his injuries, police said.

The collision happened at 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of Continental and Butte Streets.

Investigators say 38-year-old Veronica Mancilla, of Redding, was driving a black Dodge Charger south on Continental Street as the cyclist was riding north. Police say Mancilla failed to yield as she approached the intersection and struck the man as she made a left turn onto Butte Street.

The bicyclist was taken to Mercy Medical Center with major head trauma, and was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending notification of kin.


A bicyclist has been taken to a local hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car in downtown Redding Wednesday morning.

It happened on the 900 block of Butte Street, near Continental Street around 10:20 a.m.

The bicyclist was struck by a black Dodge sedan, causing the car’s windshield to smash. He has been taken by ambulance to a local hospital, but his condition is unknown at this time.

The collision remains under investigation.
