One of the best Scottish Highland Games competitors in the world resides in Chico.

Pleasant Valley High School teacher and coach Beth Burton secured a world championship in the Masters division of the Scottish Highland Games on Saturday in St. Louis, Mo.

Burton defeated other women between the ages of 40-44 in nine traditional Scottish events to win the world title. She even broke a world record in the "high throw."

The accomplishment caps off an incredible summer for Burton, who also won a national title earlier in September.
