LOS ANGELES (AP) - A skin-care specialist who was acquitted of plotting to murder a rival beautician she mistakenly blamed for stalking her has sued the Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives who investigated the case.
Dawn Melody DaLuise was cleared by a jury in January in the bizarre case that included allegations that a former NFL lineman was hired to knock off the competitor.
The Los Angeles Times reported Monday that DaLuise's lawsuit alleges detectives conducted a shoddy investigation that led to her being jailed for more than 10 months before her trial.
The suit seeks unspecified damages for the West Hollywood beautician.
Sheriff's Capt. Shawn Mathers, one of the detectives named, said he could not comment on the lawsuit because he has yet to see it.
