SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A Giants fan who was brutally beaten outside Dodger Stadium in 2011 will throw the first pitch at the minor league San Jose Giants home opener.

KNTV reports that Brian Stow, who was left severely brain damaged after the attack, will stand from his wheelchair and throw the first pitch Thursday evening. The event fulfills a promise that San Jose Giants President and CEO Dan Orum says the team made to Stow's two children.

The San Jose Giants are a minor league farm team for the San Francisco Giants.

Last year, Stow yelled "play ball" during game four of the World Series between the Giants and the Kansas City Royals.

Stow was awarded $18 million in damages in 2014. Two of his attackers are serving time in prison.
