DUARTE, Calif. (AP) - Officials have captured a bear cub that was found in a suburban Los Angeles County foothill community.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the cub was released back into the wild after its capture Sunday in Duarte, which sits at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains.
The cub was first spotted Sunday afternoon wandering by homes near a popular trail. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lt. Ernest Bille says the cub climbed up and down a tree and was hiding behind homes while wildlife officials searched for it.
Officials say the cub was between 18 to 30 months old and capable of living independently in the wild.
