Several homeless camps around Chico are a lot cleaner thanks to the efforts of a Butte County Sheriff's Office work crew.

The sheriff's office work crew cleaned out encampments Thursday as part of the county's alternative custody supervision program.

The ACS program was created as way to overcome challenges created by the passage of Proposition 47 and AB 109 by offering low to mid-level offenders an opportunity to serve out their sentences working to make a difference in the community.

The program also hosts event clean-ups and fire safe programs, even helping residents' clear defensible space around homes during fire season.
