BCSO sets up website with hopes of solving Marc Thompson case

In response to Chico State student Marc Thompson's mysterious death, the Butte County Sheriff's Office has set up a tip website with the hope that anyone with information will come forward-even anonymously.

Thompson's body was found in a burned car off Oro Quincy Highway near Mountain House in early September.

Sheriff's deputies ruled it a homicide almost right away, but no arrests have been made and the case remains unsolved.

Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea says they interviewed someone last week about the case, and are following up on information that person gave them.

But he hopes the new website will lead to more information that could help solve Thompson's death.

"At this point we're closely monitoring the website and any information that comes to us we'll evaluate and determine whether or not those are viable leads and if so we'll follow up on them," Honea said.

A $1,000 reward is being offered from the Butte County Secret Witness program for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for Thompson's death.

Honea says the website will also be used for future crimes and to ask for the public's help in solving current unsolved crimes (like the 2013 disappearance of Texas native Neal King).
