The Butte County Sheriff’s Office has entered into a contract with Cassidian Communications for a new emergency mass notification system. The agreement was also in cooperation with several Butte County municipalities.
The new system allows local emergency agencies to send out emergency notifications to a large amount of people in a short time period.
Cassidian Communications is a company which started developing single console telephone dispatch systems for utility call centers in the 1960s. Over the decades they have heavily invested in mission critical communications and emergency notification systems.
The system’s web portal allows those interested to add email addresses, cell numbers, and landline phone numbers and attach that information to a map which can be viewed by the Sheriff’s Office and other emergency agencies. While the majority of traditional land line phone numbers are shared with Law Enforcement for emergency usage, cellular phone numbers and Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) phone numbers are not currently shared.
The information provided by those interested in signing up for alert system not be released to the public, the Sheriff’s Office stated today.
A demonstration of the system will be held for media outlets Thursday morning.
