BCSO: 2 Confirmed Fatalities in Plane Crash South of Chico

(UPDATE) 5:38 p.m.-Butte County Cal Fire has stated in a press release this evening the size of the blaze as a result of a fatal plane crash was estimated to 21 acres from the original 10-15 acres. The release also stated around 11:36 a.m. two unidentified individuals in a plane crashed in Hamlin Canyon just south of Neal Road, killing both individuals. The 21-acre fire took roughly three hours to contain. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the crash investigation.
(UPDATE) 3:55 p.m.-The Butte County Sheriff's Department has now confirmed two fatalities in a plane crash near Neal Road this morning. The FAA has confirmed they have not received any phone calls regarding any missing planes.
(UPDATE) 3:30 p.m.- Public Affairs Manager for the FAA’s Pacific Division Ian Gregor has stated firefighters have begun going into the crash site on ATVs to try to get a data tag or N-number off the crashed plane. The FAA’s Pacific Division hasn’t received any calls about missing aircraft.
(UPDATE) 1:03 p.m.- Ian Gregor, Public Affairs Manager for the FAA’s Pacific Division, has confirmed one fatality in the plane crash. The air traffic control tower at the Chico Municipal Airport has stated the aircraft was a general aviation plane but was not scheduled to land at the Chico Airport.
(UPDATE) 12:37 p.m.-We have confirmed Butte County Cal Fire has closed Neal Road at the landfill due to a plane which crashed before noon today. They are currently battling a 10-15 acre fire as a result of the crash. At least one hand crew, several engines, a dozer and several aircraft are attempting to contain the flames. We have received no confirmation on injuries at this time.
BREAKING: We have received initial reports of a plane crash south of Chico near Neal Road . The crash was first reported just before 11:40 a.m. Responding agencies have not been able to provide more specifics as the situation is still developing.
