Residents on the ridge will be able to rest a little easier this fire season, thanks to some generous donations and the efforts of the group "Bare on the Ridge".
Fire season is always a worrisome time for residents on this ridge, and with this year's drought spotting fires early will be as important as ever.
Last year Pacific Gas and Electric set up three cameras with monitoring systems in northeast, central and southeastern Butte County, but the Sawmill Peak Lookout did not have a camera. The lookout was staffed by firefighters and made possible by a lot of generous donors, but the effort was not cheap.
"Bare on the Ridge" has raised money to put a camera at the Sawmill Peak Lookout, and officials say the camera will help save money, but more importantly save property and lives.
