Babysitter accused of shaking 18-month-old to death

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (AP) - A babysitter at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield has been arrested in connection to the death of an 18-month-old boy.

KNTV-TV reports that the 24-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday on investigation of assaulting a baby causing death.

Investigators say the boy had been shaken violently and dropped on the floor. He died Dec. 18 of severe internal brain injuries.

According to the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome, an estimated 300 babies a year die from being shaken in the United States.
