The Chico Police Department and California Highway Patrol are asking for the public to be on the lookout for a missing elderly man who told his family he was in Chico the last time they had contact with him.

A family member of Melvin Lachenmeir told the Chico Police Department that the 80-year-old was driving from Oregon to his home in Arizona, and called on August 28 and saying he was "at a little store in Chico".

According to the family, Lacnhenmeir did not arrive in Arizona as expected and he has a medical condition that may cause him to become disoriented.

Lachenmeir is driving a tan 1997 Ford Taurus with an Arizona license plate 731FFM. He is 5 foot 8 with grey hair and last seen wearing a dark blue shirt with Mickey Mouse on the front and khaki pants.

A "Silver Alert" notification has been broadcast by the California Highway Patrol. Anyone with information about Lachenmeir's whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Chico Police Department or any local law enforcement agency.
