The Butte County Sheriff's Office is still trying to identify the woman found dead outside a home on Rose Avenue Monday morning.

Officials say they have not identified the woman, or a suspect, but say the victim is a white woman, over the age of 40.

Sheriff's officials say that a man called 911 just after 8 a.m. Monday and told dispatchers that he had found a body in front of his home on Rose Avenue, between Oak Park Avenue and Chico River Road.

Investigators quickly ruled the case a homicide, but have not commented on the manner of death, or where the murder may have happened.

Neighbors say the gruesome discovery has rocked the normally quiet neighborhood. James Kaercher told Action News Now "there have been some strange things happen around the neighborhood, but never a body in a yard."

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Butte County Sheriff's Office.
