Authorities in Glenn County are searching for a prison inmate who walked away from a minimum security facility early Monday morning.

Corrections officials say Joshua Wortmon, 33, walked away from Valley View Conservation Camp in Elk Creek just after midnight Monday. Wortmon was serving his sentence for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon at the facility, he was scheduled for release in June of 2018.

Wortman was assigned to an inmate firefighting crew which houses approximately 100 minimum-custody inmates.

Camp staff last saw Wortman running east bound from the camp. California Highway Patrol along with all local law enforcement agencies have been notified and are searching for Wortman.

Wortman is white, five-feet-nine inches tall, 140 pounds with brown eyes and a shaved head. He was last seen wearing an orange correctional facility jacket and pants with leather boots.

Anyone who sees Wortman should call 911 immediately.
