Authorities in Redding are searching for a driver who managed to lead California Highway Patrol and Redding police officers on a five mile chase through town late Tuesday night.

The chase began on Highway 44 near Interstate 5 when a CHP officer saw a gold Toyota Camry speeding. The officer tried to pull the car over, but the driver exited on Victor Avenue and drove five miles through Redding.

Officers spiked the Toyota’s tires and the car limped into the Churn Creek Mobile Home Park and fled on foot.

Officers called in a CHP helicopter, but were unable to locate the driver. A follow-up investigation will be conducted Wednesday.
