Paradise police say a deadly shooting on Sawmill Road Saturday appears to be a domestic violence incident.

Police were called to the 5300 block of Sawmill Road around 8:35 a.m. Saturday. When emergency responders arrived they found 50-year-old Paradise resident Troy Smith dead in one of the bedrooms and 47-year-old Julia Gonzalez critically injured in the living room.

Paradise police say Gonzalez called 911 and asked for help, but was unable to give any other information. Officers say the woman had been shot in the head and is currently in a coma at the UC Davis Medical Center.

The Butte County Coroner’s Office says Smith died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Paradise police say a gun was recovered from the home and they're not saying who shot first, but police not believe a shooter is at large.
