A five foot salmon sculpture underneath the Highway 70 overpass at Montgomery Street in Oroville was stolen this week, leading city officials to remove other valuable artwork until it can be adequately protected.

Vice Mayor Thil Wilcox told Action News Now she was notified that one of the seven salmon sculptures was stolen sometime this week. City officials say they have ordered that the other sculptures be taken down and placed into storage, until the city can find a way to prevent another theft.

Wilcox says the city has discussed the installation of security cameras, but the funds are not available at this time.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the Oroville Police Department.
