A Chico man is in custody after neighbors reported hearing shooting. No injuries were reported in the shooting.

Chico Police officers responded to the 2000 block of Notre Dame Avenue near Robailey Drive around 11 a.m. Saturday where they discovered bullet casings in the apartment complex. Further investigation led them to the apartment of Nicholas Sermeno, 25. Sermeno told the officers he was shooting at an unknown armed intruder and the shots were in self-defense.

A search of the suspect’s apartment revealed stolen firearms and narcotics for sale. The unknown armed intruder was never located, but officers said they are currently searching for the assailant.
