Arrest made in Oroville beating

A suspect has been arrested in connection with an assault in Oroville that left a 49-year-old man in critical condition.

Sheriff's officials were originally called to Oroville Hospital around 7:30 a.m. Monday when hospital officials reported a man, later identified as 49-year-old Douglas Coleman, had been dropped off nearly beaten to death.

Deputies began an investigation and determined the assault occurred at a south Oroville home on Elgin Street. Investigators spoke interviewed witnesses and arrested 29-year-old Mathew Lowry in Palermo Tuesday morning.

Lowry has been booked into the Butte County Jail and charged with attempted murder. Coleman was transferred to Enloe Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
