A major development in the murder of a Chico mom of four. 29-year-old Zir Weems was arrested at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Butte County Sheriff's Investigators met Weems at the Glenn County Jail as he was posting bail on an unrelated animal cruelty case.

His wife, Angelica Weems, was reported missing September 14, 2014. Her body was found by family members October 5, 2014. She had four young children and worked at the T.J. Maxx in Chico.

Zir Weems was arrested on an open count of murder. Sources close to the investigation say the investigators had the luxury of having him in custody on the animal cruelty case and were able to get sufficient evidence to make the arrest before he bailed out of jail.

Weems will be arraigned in Butte County Monday afternoon.
