The Redding Police Department has arrested 30-year-old Michael Lopez in connection to a commercial burglary in June in which $19,000 in merchandise was stolen from a Redding optometrist.
At 8:30 a.m. this morning Lopez, identified as a suspect in the burglary after his fingerprints matched those left at the scene of the crime earlier this year, was spotted drinking coffee inside the Starbucks at 1400 Eureka Way. He was taken to the Redding Police Department for further questioning. During their interview, investigators determined Lopez had in his possession a stolen credit card from another theft case. He also had a hypodermic syringe on his person used to previously inject methamphetamine, according to the Redding Police Department.
Investigators also stated Lopez told them he was in the company of another unidentified subject when he committed the burglary at the office of Thomas E. Ward on June 16 of this year. Lopez and another subject allegedly used a rock to smash out the front glass door of the business and lifted $19,000 worth of merchandise largely consisting of new sunglasses and eyeglasses.
The eyeglasses and sunglasses have not been recovered.
Lopez was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of commercial burglary, possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit burglary and violation of probation.
