Plumas County sheriff’s deputies have arrested the stabbing victim found near Bucks Lake Saturday for the murder of a person found severely burned nearby.
Firefighters found the stab victim, and now murder suspect, 23-year-old Sheldon Steward, when they were called to the area around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Steward was taken to Enloe Medical Center for treatment.
Officials then discovered the burned human remains within the small fire. According to the sheriff’s office, the body was so badly burned that an identification will not be confirmed until dental records can be examined.
The burnt remains have been turned over to the Washoe County Coroner in Nevada for autopsy.
Investigators spoke with Steward at Enloe Saturday afternoon, and he was arrested on suspicion of murder after his release from the hospital.
Sheldon’s bail has been set at $1 million.
