Arrest leads to identity of two suspects in Alta Mesa Park homicide

The Redding Police Department has identified 18-year-old Dillon Smith and 17-year-old Raquan Matthews as suspects in the homicide of 21-year-old Thomas Sladeck who was shot in his car near Alta Mesa Park Sunday night. Both suspects are considered armed and dangerous.

Officers obtained the identities of the suspects after arresting another subject during their investigation.

According to the department, investigators learned of information which led them to a home on the 2900 block of Newbury Lane today where 20-year-old Logan Jackson Barnhart was eventually arrested for conspiracy, attempted robbery, and murder charges.

During an interview with Barnhart he reportedly gave investigators the identities of the two outstanding suspects the department was searching for in connection to Sladeck’s murder.

Around 7 p.m. Sunday night emergency personnel responded to the 2300 block of Saturn Skyway for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers arrived to find Sladeck had been shot in his vehicle. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he later died from his wounds.

Officers learned the incident occurred at Alta Mesa Park where two suspects reportedly approached Sladeck while he was sitting in his car. After either a brief conversation or argument one of the suspects shot Sladeck and all the suspects fled the scene on foot. The suspects were initially described to investigators as a white male adult and a Hispanic adult male.

Matthews is described as a black male, 5’11”, 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Sims is described as a white adult male, 5’11”, 155 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
