A man was shot and killed by police Tuesday during an investigation into a pair of armed robberies.

The situation began around 12:30 p.m. when police surrounded a home on the 600 block of Pomona Avenue. Authorities have confirmed they were in the area conducting surveillance on a man suspected of robbing two Chico convenience stores last Thursday night and Friday morning.

The shooting was reported just before 1:30 p.m. and one man was killed, however his name has not been released. No officers were injured.

In the moments following the shooting, a man matching the description of one alleged robber was taken into custody.

A SWAT team remained on the scene until about 5 p.m., and has since cleared out. Police say all people of interest have been taken into custody and a press conference on the shooting has been scheduled for 10 p.m.

The Butte County District Attorney’s officer involved shooting protocol team is on the scene investigating and will have most of the area closed off for the rest of the night.
