Anderson Police investigate double homicide

Anderson police are investigating a double homicide after two people were found dead at an apartment complex in Anderson Thursday.

Chief of Police Michael Johnson said they have arrested a suspect, Anthony Baxter, 39, of Shasta County.

Officers were called to an apartment near the 1600 block of Manter Drive Thursday afternoon.

Police reports an elderly couple were found dead in one of its rooms.

APD are not releasing the victims’ identities and will conduct an autopsy.

Police said a hammer was found in the room near the bodies, but did not say it was connected to the deaths.

Police add they cannot release the relationship of the suspect to the couple.

Johnson said Shasta County Sheriffs SWAT team helped Anderson Police serve a search warrant on 1700 block of Shasta Street in Anderson. That is where Police said Baxter was hiding overnight.

According to reporter Angela Musallam, Meadow Lane Middle School and Anderson Union High was briefly locked down Friday morning as SWAT team served an arrest warrant for Baxter.

Crime scene investigation is being done by the California Department of Justice.
