This morning Anderson Police began phase two of an operation designed to enforce a city ordinance prohibiting camping in city limits.

The operation began at 8:00 a.m. in the area between I-5, Balls Ferry Road and Barney Road. The Anderson Municipal Code says that it’s illegal to set up camp in public within city limits. The owner of the property being swept requested that subjects be removed and cited or arrested for trespassing.

During the operation ten people were contacted, five were identified and released because they were in the process of leaving the property. Two subjects were issued citations for misdemeanor warrants and another was cited for trespassing. A final subject, 24-year-old Michael Pond was arrested and booked into jail for trespassing and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Phase one of the operation began on Saturday February 22 when officers contacted subjects living in the area and advised them of the municipal code, and the trespassing laws. Campers were warned by officers that there would be an enforcement operation in the near future and campers should make arrangements.
